Sinister - Suggesting Evil ; Threatening

Pronounced as Sin (emphasized) + Nister (rhyming with Mister) {Listen to it here}

It comes from Latin where Sinister means left. This stems from the superstition that the left side of the body is unlucky.

Situational Uses / Sentences:

  • They happened to be standing in a place that felt sinister, claustrophobic, and not forgetting, chilly.

When I hear the word “sinister” I always think of that evil prince from Aladdin. There is a strong association between the word and the character in my mind, for some reason.
