Gingerly: Very Carefully, Cautiously

Pronounced as Jin + Jer + Lee. Interesting right? ;)

Though its origin is uncertain, perhaps came from Old French word – Gensor meaning pretty. Can you shed more light on its origin?

Situational Uses:

  • The kid drank the milk gingerly, to ensure that it wasn’t too hot to burn his lips.
  • After facing a huge loss, the investor proceeded to invest in the markets rather gingerly.

You must build a gingerbread house gingerly or it shall crumble. Such tasty crumbs though.

This is a lovely word and it’s new to me! As a non-native teacher of English, I do appreciate learning new words. Thanks for sharing!
