Been missing phobia’s for a while? ;)

Claustrophobia: An irrational fear of being in a confined or enclosed space.

Pronounced as Claw +Str (from String) + Phobia

It comes from Latin Claustrum meaning a Closed Place + Greek Phobos meaning Fear.

Situational Uses:

  • People who are claustrophobic, sweat, nauseate and feel terrible when they are inside an elevator.
  • My claustrophobic friend refused to come with me to the rock concert, since it was being held in a packed auditorium.

A short exercise for you. Figure out the opposite of Claustrophobia. :) Liked it? Subscribe to daily updates from Weboword – Vocabulary Visually! by Email
